Meet Captain Jonathan Ogelsby
Hi y’all, I’m Capt. Jonathan Oglesby. I was born and raised near Clinton, NC. As a child, my family had a house in Newport, NC near Morehead City. When I wasn’t fishing, I was thinking about fishing. I love all types of fishing, but saltwater got into my veins. I love catching fish, watching fish, tying leaders, rigging lures, boat riding, pretty much everything about fishing. After college, I had the opportunity to fish off Hatteras Island alongside Capt. Rom Whitaker on the Release. I also fished frequently out of Morehead City on the Chain Link.In 2006, we were fortunate enough to win The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament.
Love fishing inshore because it offers so many advantages. First, we usually only have short boat rides. We don’t have to cross miles of angry, windswept ocean. We don’t have to endure beating surf and choppy seas. It can be rough at times, but my mobility allows me to access prime fishing spots from closer launches. Secondly, we don’t have the huge overhead of a 60′ sportfisher. We don’t require nearly as much fuel. That allows us to keep the cost of the trip reasonable and affordable. I go to where the fish are. We’re not locked into a specific boat slip that limits our fishing locations. We have access to Pamlico Sound, Roanoke Sound, Croatan Sound, Bogue Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. We fish out of Nags Head, Manteo, Wanchese, Oregon Inlet, Morehead City, and Atlantic Beach. If you want to fish nearshore (in the ocean), we can do that too. We cater each trip to each client’s specific needs. Let us know what you want to catch, and we’ll do our best to get it done.
I have also fished regularly out of Oregon Inlet on the Hooker with Capt. Tom Krauss. When I wasn’t offshore fishing, I was pirating the inshore waters from Hatteras Island to Roanoke Island. I fished everywhere from Hatteras Inlet to Nags Head and everywhere in between. This experience is where I truly fell in love with a fishery. I love sharing my hard-earned knowledge with others. Seeing a guest catch that fish of lifetime—experiencing their joy—is my driving force. I’ve caught tens of thousands of fish, but each big fish a client lands is far more rewarding than anything I’ve caught.
